Simple and elegant, chignon is a versatile ever popular hairstyle. Whether your event is formal or casual, you can never go wrong with a chignon look. The chignon is ideal for anyone who’s looking for a no fuss chic style. If you want to look picture perfect like your favourite Hollywood celebs, here are 4 chignon styles that we’ve put together for you, inspired from various red carpet appearances.
Soft Chignon like Emma Stone
Neatly side-part your hair. Pick one side, either left or right, where you want to rest your chignon. Then take both sections of your hair and pull to one side. Hold the two sections in each hand like ponytails. Now tie the two sections into a loose knot. Take one section and wrap it around to the right and secure it with a bobby pin. Repeat the same process with the other section and hold with another pin. The final addition is spraying it with a medium-hold hairspray. You now have an Emma Stone inspired chignon in just 5 minutes!
Romantic Chignon like Nina Dobrev
This style is perfect for you if you have bangs. Make a centre partition, part your bangs and clip them back. Take the rest of your hair and tie it into a low ponytail. Now unclip the two sections of the bangs and create a single ponytail out of them that sits right above the first low ponytail. Then combine the two ponytails and create two or three braids. Twist the braids and make a bun and secure it with pins. To avoid any gap between the braids, pin the braids together as well. Pull out a few soft tendrils of your hair so that they hang beautifully beside your jaw line from above the ears on both sides. Spray your hair with a light-hold hairspray and you are done! Thank Nina Dobrev for this style inspiration.
Retro Chignon like Zooey Deschanel
Volume at the crown and a tucked in chignon rolled underneath gives you a classy vintage chignon. Take the top section of your hair from the hairline to the crown and tease it with a boar bristle brush. Then, smooth the top layer of the teased hair and tie it into a ponytail. Now take the rest of the hair and create a second ponytail below the first. Combine both the ponytails, tease the under layer and roll it up into the nape of your neck. Secure the chignon with bobby pins in a crisscross manner and spritz with a hairspray.
Tousled Wave Chignon like Kate Hudson
Spray a tousle wave spray on your wet hair and scrunch with your hands. Then comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb to evenly spread out the spray throughout all the strands. Take small sections of your hair about an inch wide and blow dry. Repeat this step for the rest of the hair. After this, finger-comb your hair to separate the hair strands to get loose waves. Now take all your hair and tie it up into a loose chignon. Secure it with a lot of bobby pins. If you like, tease the hair to create a messy look. Put on some hairspray for a good hold and voila—now your hair looks like Kate Hudson’s!
Chignons don’t really work on freshly washed hair. So, when you try this style, make sure that you haven’t washed it for at least two days or you’ll need to use a dry texturizing spray.
